summer days - mulberry splash

A big old mulberry tree growing along the river. We rode by on our bikes and stopped to watch pairs of women picking and chatting. We had nothing to keep the wet ripe berries in so we ate our pick as we went. Later in the day we went back donned in black and picked again, maybe not enough for mulberry jam but just enough for a delicious pie or crumble.

I grew up with a mulberry tree in my mother's garden and I do miss it. Thinking I'll walk up to where I know there is one and ask if I can pick a bucket. That, and grow one this year.
