a little note

What a crazy month it has been. A dose of pneumonia and moving house has kept me far away from this little space. I am looking forward to many more posts, photos and visits in the coming year. Have a safe and happy christmas x.

untitled sunday

I have had some time to look back over the last few weeks. A good dose of pneumonia has kept me pretty much in bed and by myself much of the time with loved ones staying at a safe distance. We are also moving from our home of seven years in a couple of weekends and I have found myself feeling very retrospective and sentimental, which has prompted this pre-Christmas pictorial look back at some of my favourite photos from this space. Here is a little something that I came across this morning that brightened up my day: :) - oh what beautiful colours and patterns x

bryter

Pansy by me, nasturtium by i
Today was about flowers. My young one drew a beautiful flower garden that grew and grew as she took more paper off the roll and I pressed spring pansies and nasturtiums. Today felt bright after a week of rainy weather.

blue

The colour theme for today is cooling blue. I am always trying to catch birds in flight. Flying gulls and swallows are my favourites, with gulls being of course the easier to capture. This blue winter coat has a flying gull repeat pattern on the inside lining which I find very dear - will have to include a pic of that another time.

Hello yellow

Yellow often pops up here and there on four leaves. This week I am setting myself the challenge of posting two photos each day on the theme of colour. The cross stitch is by my daughter x.

all sorts

A quiet moment before sleep to do this small post. The days have been busy and I have had this little blog in the back of my mind, thinking of what photos to add or what words to write. Alas it is a little late now and I am tired, so here is a small offering for now. The cards up top are for our sweet daughter S (xxx) who turned an impressive 10 the other week. The other two pics seem to go together somehow, maybe it's the fold of the tea towel and the fall of my young ones hair on the nape of her neck..... time for sleep now:)

Sunday sunday

Sunday mornings are very much about food in our house. A long breakfast usually followed by a trip to the farmers market, then home for morning tea. Poached eggs on toast, fresh apple juice and lemon tarts fill our bellies, make us feel well looked after and content. This morning it was chocolate pancakes - the recipe is small variation on the classic - Sift 1 cup Sr/flour, close to a 1/4 cup brown sugar, two or three tablespoons of good organic cocoa into a bowl, a pinch of salt, add about a cup of milk (more or less depending how you like them), a beaten egg and a drop of olive oil and mix or beat well. Melt butter in the pan and pour mixture:)

Blue day

A visit to the bay this morning. On the tram down I was imagining cornflower blue seas and pale sand, thinking summer and not winter. At first I was taken aback by the steely grey seas and the shabby sand as mottled looking as this roving dog. My moment of disappointment passed quickly. For many years, in one of the shopping arcade car parks, there was a little 1960's caravan that was permanently parked, and served as a thrift shop. The caravan was always manned by two elderly people at a time, often two women, sometimes a man and a woman, seated on a vinyl bench seat behind what looked like an old breakfast counter. Incredibly quaint and and friendly. I visited another old bay thrift store which doubles as a cafe and has this great deco looking hand painted sign. It was here that I found these sweet little J&G Meakin cups with pretty blue flowers, a memento of a lovely morning.

In the city

I have not laid my eyes on coast or hills for two or three weeks. The city seems to have been my main destination for work and play and I am now craving a change of scene. My small family went south to the beach side for three days last week to make the most of the school holidays and my ties to work. The first time I had been at home without children and partner for almost a decade. Initially I was dreading coming home to a dark house and waking to a still one. But all was very well and I found many things to fill in my time with, dinner, movie, book, browsing - all so good! The pics above were taken in the city parklands on Sunday. The sweet image below is from the weekend movie we enjoyed so much - Fox and the Child.
