Thrifted Tuesday - what children do

What Children Do is probably my favourite children's book. It was published in Melbourne in 1975 with the assistance of the Australian Government on the recommendation of the Australian National Advisory Committee for International Women's Year. It is simply written and presents a selection of black and white photographs to illustrate a typical day in the life of these three siblings living in Melbourne's inner city. The above street sign reads Greeves and Fitzroy. I am thinking some of you Aussies may have lived on, walked down or visited friends on one or both of these iconic streets at some time.

I LOVE the log pyramid... going to be on the lookout for anyone cutting down a tree... gotta have one of those in my back yard.

Love those pieces of history. You couldn't publish a book with a cover like that now could you, shorts riding up and bare legs. And that wasn't that long ago. And those kids, all running down the street ... do you ever, ever see that anymore?
