wide open roads
It was cool and the skies were dramatic at times along the way but summer was waiting for us when we arrived in the South East. And so there was swimming for hours, staying up late and sleeping in, drinking good wine in the Coonawarra, looking out over the light green glass ocean at Robe, pink noses and sandal lines and then home again. Happy New Year for tonight! x

rain lover
It rained yesterday and today. Last night, dinner with friends while thunder struck and rain drops hit the tin roof. Today, a day at home, watching the rain and spotting a perfect rainbow.

good morning
A small sleep in for us on the last day of the school year. Time to tickle unwashed toes in bed. Not watching the clock too closely, knowing that the school bell will be ringing on the way there anyway. I didn't add a photo for Thursday so I have doubled up here and from now on I think I may need to be a little more flexible with my I photo a day till boxing day pledge. Have a lovely day x

Wow wee, change IS as good as a holiday! - I am also on holiday (at home) so the goodness is double ;-) I chucked in my day job a few weeks ago and have had some time to do some of those everyday simple things that were once just part of my day or week, like posting here more often. I have another few weeks off before starting an new job which is less hours and will be a really nice change, and the new year, looks like it will bring with it the gift of some more space -to think, plan, create and to give a little more. I am just now setting myself the task of adding a photo here a day until boxing day. I have noticed that others in this space often post a photo on Friday that describes one small quiet moment in an otherwise busy week. I will just be finding one of those moments to post here everyday.

a collection of starlings
I came across this video posted on cloth.paper.string this morning. It is beautiful and dramatic. I watched it twice with my daughters and then again by myself. I think I will watch it again tomorrow and wanted to share it here too. Enjoy!

Thursday
well.... I think it is time to mix things up. The time to take a few (more) chances. It's the time to stop and smell the roses. It's time for morning tea. Welcome in randomitis!

make your own kind of music
You can make things up as you go along or you can plan for changes along the way. Sometimes you just have to wait to see what's playing next.

closer
Colours and details. A very Adelaide spring day with blue skies, bright sun and dry heat. I said goodbye to my lingering cold and shook of last weeks blues and headed into the city and gardens to make the most of my day off and the first day back at school. How pretty the city is at this time of year. The art gallery has had a bit of a change of furniture lately and has some fresh Australian modernist paintings on display in the purple gallery. I just love these terrazzo stairs too.

shine on
from flickr favourites and my photo set. |
Sunshine and silver clouds. A weeks sniffles have left me and my photo taking mojo a little low. Oh well, it's just the way it blows sometimes.
P.S. that's our handsome puss Scout x.

texture and warmth
jazz by I x |
Yesterday we had our first spring swim. Outside the skies are blue, our streets are full of red Bottle Brush flowers and the birds are happy and busy. Inside I am noticing all of the autumunal colours and thinking of the coming warm and hot days.

on my way
Almost time to leave tonight for a short solo trip to Melbourne for a dear friends birthday and to catch up with my lovey brother. My daughters sudden high temperature made my happy go luck step falter a little this morning and I began to wonder if I should leave her while she is feeling so poorly. But she has now perked up a little and I keep reminding myself that she will be happy with her dad and big sister while I am away and that it really is OK to miss one fever out of the many we have shared together. Let me know about your favourite Melbourne Haunts. So far Meet Me at Mikes and the NGV Vienna exhibition are on the card.

winter spring
Blossoming jasmine, magnolia and wattle, letting us know spring is close. Cuttings of jasmine by the front door and in the bedrooms. Sweet and woody smelling wattle - natures pom poms growing down by the river.

miss you
My daughter woke this morning to the sound of our lovely neighbours across the way moving out of their house. We have exchanged promises to visit, ah, but we still miss them dearly.

girl
My daughter draws many pictures on the paint program. I am sure this one only took minutes to create but it has all of her flair and sense of composition.

winter beach
A couple of days at the seaside. I found myself taking a couple of deep breaths and then without any thoughts of resistance found myself slowing down after weeks of activity and must do's. The days were misty, the seas were choppy and there was a king tide - the highest in 7 years we heard. In someplace there was no sand to walk on and the winter sun only showed itself once or twice. But we found many things to do and an ever so cozy place to have hot chocolates and a good glass or two of red wine. Just before we headed off the skies cleared and I took this gull picture. The sun followed us on the drive home.
